SUFFERING FROM NECK PAIN IN BILOXI?

SUFFERING FROM NECK PAIN IN BILOXI?

If you’ve ever heard the phrase “a pain in the neck,” you can imagine the discomfort literal neck pain can cause. This common condition affects the neck, shoulders and upper back and can feel like anything from an ache to stiffness to a burning sensation.  When you live with neck pain long enough, you know its important to find your Biloxi chiropractor Dr. Vince Mitchell, who has been helping Gulf Coast patients overcome neck pain for over two decades.  Even the simplest of movements involving the neck, shoulders, arms and upper back can cause a great deal of pain and discomfort.  Most people with neck pain usually try to eliminate pain on their own or ignore it altogether, hoping the pain will naturally go away.  In some cases it will go away, but the misalignment that caused the problem is usually still there. If the problem is not corrected it can become much more serious. Some patients let things go to the point where surgery may be the only option.  Prolonged neck pain can affect overall health and quality of life as it can limit your range of motion. At the Back & Neck Care Center, we use gentle chiropractic care to alleviate neck pain, so patients can get back to enjoying a normal, active and pain-free life.

    BACK PAIN TREATMENT IN BILOXI

    BACK PAIN TREATMENT IN BILOXI

Back pain is a debilitating condition that affects adults of all ages and it is one of the most common reasons why people consult with a chiropractor.  People suffering from back pain may find difficulty performing everyday tasks like sitting, sleeping and engaging in physical activities.  According to the American Chiropractic Association, an estimated 31 million American experience lower back pain at any given time.  Managing your back pain with chiropractic care can help alleviate back pain and restore your quality of life.  At the Back & Neck Care Center, we help patients in Biloxi, Gulfport and surrounding communities manage their back pain naturally with chiropractic care, avoiding invasive surgical procedures.  Your Biloxi Chiropractor, Dr. Vince Mitchell, has over two decades of experience in providing chiropractic care in Biloxi, Gulfport, and Gulf coast for back pain relief.  His highly experienced team at the Back & Neck Care Center provides holistic approach to Back Pain treatment.

Types of Low Back Pain in Biloxi and Gulfport
There are several types of back pain, but the most common types are acute low-back pain and chronic low-back pain.  Acute back pain - Patients with acute low-back pain often improve on their own, through self-care, and stay active.  If acute low back pain persist after four weeks, you can consider non-drug therapies, including Chiropractic adjustments.  Chronic back pain - Long-term use of pain medication usually does not improve functioning for patients with chronic low-back pain.  Natural therapies, including spinal chiropractic adjustments prove more beneficial.  Psychological and social factors also contribute to chronic low-back pain.  Most patients with chronic low-back pain will not become pain-free so treatment should be more focused on improving function and reducing pain.
Symptoms of Lumbar or Low Back Pain in Biloxi and Gulfport
With back pain, the connection to a physical source is not always evident. There are people showing no spinal abnormalities on their X-rays yet suffer from excruciating back pain.
    • Low back pain with any movements of the spine
    • Difficulty walking, standing, or sitting
    • Difficulty getting up from seated position
    • Muscle spasms
    • Stiff and achy lower back in the morning or at night
    • Radiating pain into back of leg or groin
Causes of Low Back Back Pain
The human spine is a complex structure of discs, joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles. There are several possible causes for back pain or discomfort.  Most back pain sufferers don’t seek help to find out the cause of their back pain thinking that the pain will go away on its own and only get medical assistance if the pain intensifies and become unbearable.
    • Strained Muscles or Ligaments - Muscles, ligaments and tendons get strained when they are pulled or torn, which can damage fibers resulting in pain. This is more common among athletes and weekend warriors who engage in physically-demanding activities. However, you can still suffer from pulled muscle or ligaments while doing things, such as lifting, at home or at work.
    • Stress - When you are stressed, you become tensed, your blood pressure and heart rate rise and your muscles tighten.  Constant stress causes your muscles to become sore and weak.
    • Vertebral Subluxation - Vertebral subluxation is a result of the spine in which alignment, movement integrity and physiological functions are compromised due to functional, structural, and/or pathological articular changes. In the lumbar spine, these usually occur at the transition between the lower spine and the sacrum.  Because of the relationship between the spinal column, the spinal cord, and the spinal nerves, vertebral subluxations have the potential to impair proper nerve function.
      • Herniated Disc - A herniated disc results when the rubbery cushions located between vertebrae or individual bones in the spine are ruptured.  When one of these discs develops a crack in its hard outer wall, the inner disc material is pushed into the spinal canal. When this happens, the herniated disc irritates the nerves and causes pain, weakness, or numbness.
      • Bulging & Slipped Discs - The term "slipped disc" is really a misnomer.  Discs are firmly attached to the vertebrae above and below and, as such, cannot "slip." They can, however, become wedged or "bulged" due to misalignment of one or both of their neighboring vertebrae. This condition is often termed a "slipped disc."  A common cause of such wedging – and one which can cause indescribable symptoms – is a sudden injury to the spine from a fall, an auto accident, whiplash, strain from lifting, a blow to the neck or back area, etc.  The effects of disc injuries may be very extensive and distressing. There may be limited motion with severe symptoms, or even organic dysfunction resulting from pressure or irritation on the nerves that pass between the vertebrae and are adjacent to the disc, thus altering nerve supply to organs and parts of the body located away from the spine itself.  While medical diagnosis uses "slipped disc" as a cover name for most back problems, including those few true ruptured discs, a false impression is given that most all back problems are due to disc problems. This simply is not true, and statistics and results prove it. The fact is that most back problems, including disc involvement, can be corrected through specific application of chiropractic spinal adjustment.
HEADACHE & MIGRAINE TREATMENT IN BILOXI

HEADACHE & MIGRAINE TREATMENT IN BILOXI

Headaches and migraines are awful.  Living with either of these issues can make you feel angry, grumpy and at times, leave you unable to function. Medication may help in the short term, but when the problem is ongoing or re-occurring, the pills and other treatments are generally not enough. The source of your headaches and migraines is usually structural, and therefore proper treatment can help you overcome this debilitating issue. Headache relief at our Biloxi chiropractic clinic may be the solution you are looking for.

Some estimates suggest that 25 percent of the population has a headache right now. Because headaches are so common, most people think it is a normal part of life. Headaches, however, are a sign that something is wrong. We know that stress, toxic fumes, certain foods and preservatives and even alcohol can cause headaches. A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches is the malfunction of spinal bones in the neck and upper back. When the bones of the spine lose their normal position or motion, the sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head become compromised. When these delicate tissues are stretched or irritated, they can produce certain types of headaches. While aspirin or other medications may cover up the symptoms, they do not really correct the cause of the headache. A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that chiropractic adjustments resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.

I GET HEADACHES ALL THE TIME...CAN CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS HELP?

Many people suffer from chronic headaches. Some headaches can be attributed to stress or tension, but the latest medical literature reports that some cases of chronic headache are caused by a problem in the neck—and that they are often misdiagnosed or unrecognized by physicians.  These headaches are known as “cervicogenic headaches,” since they have their “genesis” in the cervical spine. They arise when the nerves, joints, or muscles of the neck are injured or strained. Pain signals from the neck can get mixed with nerve pathways of the head and face, and can create pain in seemingly unrelated parts of the body.
Tension headaches are the most common type of headache accounting for 90% of all headaches. The pain from a tension headache is constant and it can be diffusely spread throughout one or more areas in the head. You may have pain in your neck and upper back from sore muscles or even dizziness from a tension headache. The most common causes of tension headaches are anxiety, stress, depression and anger as well as food allergies, poor posture, and improper breathing. Though common OTC pain relievers such as aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen can mask the pain from a tension headache, they carry unwanted side effects if you reach for that bottle too often. Stomach problems and liver damage can occur if OTC pain relievers are used too often. More importantly, treating a tension headache with a pain reliever is much like sticking your finger in the hole in the dam rather than fixing the hole. Tension headaches occur mainly because of stress and poor posture that fatigues and strains the muscles that support your head.
Cervical spine dysfunction can cause pain in any part of the head, and cervicogenic headaches are usually focused on one side.  Although their symptoms are similar to those of tension headaches and migraines, cervicogenic headaches are often a result of injury or other trauma. Because cervicogenic headaches often restrict a patient’s range of motion, this condition can seriously impact physical abilities and overall quality of life. New research published in Chiropractic & Osteopathy supports the case for using chiropractic spinal manipulation to treat cervicogenic headaches.  These types of headaches can last for many hours or days, and are usually described as a dull, aching pain. Neck movement, injuries, or an awkward posture can trigger these headaches. Medication may relieve pain temporarily, but if the root cause of the pain is not eliminated, the symptoms will just return down the road. The first step in treating headache is to take a careful history and perform a thorough physical exam. This will help us determine the precise source of your pain, and help us design an effective treatment plan. Chiropractic care in our Biloxi office can be a great way to treat headaches, since we work specifically with the spine to make sure that it is functioning properly. If you suffer from regular headaches, contact the BACK & NECK CARE CENTER in Biloxi for an appointment. Biondi DM. Cervicogenic headache: a review of diagnostic and treatment strategies. SUFFERING WITH NEUROPATHY IN BILOXI?

According to the National Institute of Health, an estimated 20 million people in the United States have some form of peripheral neuropathy, a condition that results from damage to the peripheral nervous system — the colossal communications network that transmits information between the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and every other part of your body. The chiropractic physician at the Back & Neck Care Center  can help you treat your neuropathy and your symptoms.  Depending on the cause, you may be able to eliminate the condition completely or control it with regular chiropractic care and other related treatments. Dr. Mitchell in Biloxi is equipped to answer any questions you may have about how chiropractic care can benefit you and what you can expect.

      What Is Neuropathy?

Peripheral neuropathy is a frustrating, life impairing condition that is frequently overlooked until it’s too late to treat effectively.  This disorder involves nerve damage that affects the extremities of the body, such as the arms and legs, with symptoms that often include pain resembling the experience of pressure from pins and needles. It may result from an underlying cause such as diabetic neuropathy, or the disorder can be idiopathic, with no apparent cause.
More people suffer from this one condition than Alzheimer’s, Epilepsy, Rheumatoid Arthritis, HIV, Parkinson’s Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis combined.  Of the 20 million Americans suffering from neuropathy, an estimated 15-18 million of those people have this condition due to a form of diabetes.  Neuropathy and Peripheral Neuropathy are common terms used when referring to damage to a single nerve or a group of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord. Nerves found in these areas of the body constitute what is called your peripheral nervous system. Neuropathy is used to describe a group of disorders that find their start from peripheral nervous system damage or injury.

      Treating Peripheral Neuropathy
When it comes to the conventional treatment options available for peripheral neuropathy, many patients choose medication to alleviate their symptoms. They may relieve the pain that neuropathy can cause, but they won’t treat the underlying condition. This chronic condition is often treated with a combination of medications such as Gabapentin, Neurontin, Lyrica or Cymbalta in an effort to mask the symptoms while the nerves continue to deteriorate from lack of blood flow (ischemia) and hypoxia (lack of oxygen).  This continued nerve deterioration (death) can often lead to gangrene and ultimately amputation of affected areas.  There are better options available for sufferers today, and you can choose the treatment option you believe is best for your health.

      Understanding Your Peripheral Nervous System

Your peripheral nervous system is made up of different kinds of nerves that send information and commands from your brain and spinal cords to your body and back. The peripheral nervous system nerves are:
      • Sensory Nerves: communicate cold, heat, pain and touch.
      • Motor Nerves: control movement and the muscles that allow you to move
      • Autonomic Nerves: control the automatic or involuntary functions of your body such as heart rate, blood pressure and digestion.
Damage or injury to any of these peripheral nerves can trigger symptoms throughout your body.

The Most Common Symptoms Of Neuropathy

The symptoms of neuropathy can range from minimal, moderate to severe due to the types of nerves that are impacted and/or where the impacted nerves are located. Some symptoms come and go at random.Others only trigger symptoms when agitated by exercise or poor posture.
        • Sensitive Skin
        • Burning
        • Tingling Or Prickly Feelings
        • Leg Or Foot Pain
        • Electrical Shock-Like Pain
        • Increased Risk Of Falling
        • Muscle Weakness
        • Pain Or Muscle Cramping That Disrupts Sleep
        • Impaired Balance
        • Numbness & Pain In Your Hands Or Feet
In many cases, the initial symptoms are mild, but worsen over time - moving from the toes to the feet, the legs and can even affect the hands.
What Causes These Types Of Nerve Damage?
Figuring out what causes certain kinds of nerve damage can be very challenging.  30% of all neuropathy has no clear cause for the pain.  At  the Back & Neck Care Center in Biloxi, our diagnostic tools, advanced neurological evaluation and testing can help you determine if your condition is truly idiopathic (without a known cause) or if there is a hidden one we can treat. Another 30% of nerve issues find their root in diabetes.  High blood sugar levels severely damage nerves, leading to further complications that only make it harder to stay healthy with this disease. Studies show the following to also be linked to neuropathy cases:
        • Diabetes (most common)
        • Traumatic injury
        • Infection
        • Metabolic Disorders
        • Toxins
        • Alcoholism, especially addictions that stretch over decades
        • Exposure to toxins and heavy metals
        • Tumors – even benign lumps can put serious pressure on a nerve bundle
        • Chronic diseases like HIV, AIDS, hypothyroidism, and Lyme disease
        • Diseases and conditions that affect kidney and liver function
        • Nutritional imbalances that lead to B vitamin deficiencies
        • Sudden trauma or daily habits, such as poor posture and a lack of ergonomic office equipment

        Think you’ve tried everything?

Have others told you this is something that you’ll have to live with? Nothing more can be done? What if there was another option that didn’t involved medication, surgery or injections.Well, it just so happens there may be such an option for you!

Peripheral Neuropathy can be stopped and reversed to a certain degree if you’re not past a certain degree of nerve damage (our testing will tell us whether or not we can help).

        STRUGGLING WITH SCIATICA IN BILOXI?

        STRUGGLING WITH SCIATICA IN BILOXI?

If you are experiencing pain that radiates from the back or buttocks all the way down the legs, you may have a common condition called SCIATICA. Many people look for a solution so they don't have to suffer with the pain of sciatica and many unfortunately, never achieve a long term solution. An untreated sciatic condition can continue to worsen and make the daily tasks of living go from difficult to impossible. This article is aimed at helping you to understand sciatica and explains how chiropractic treatment the BACK & NECK CARE CENTER can help you to overcome it.  Sciatica, which is also known as sciatic neuralgia, is a condition that causes pain in the lower back, down the back of the leg, and into the foot. It can make sitting and standing for long periods of time difficult and can lead to weakness, tingling, and numbness in the leg and foot. It will often come and go throughout a person's lifetime, causing periods of varying degrees of pain and discomfort. If left unchecked, sciatic pain will generally grow worse and the nerve can become permanently injured. The reason why the pain travels so far, seems to radiate up and down the legs and back, is because it is caused by the compression of the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body. This nerve originates in the lumbar spine and extends into the buttocks before traveling down the leg to the ankle and foot. When the vertebrae in the low back are compressed, the roots of the sciatic nerve can become pinched and irritated which is what causes the pain and injury.

        HOW DO YOU DEVELOP SCIATICA?

There are a number of factors that can lead to sciatica. It is most commonly caused by disc injuries and bulges. In this occurrence, the disc presses against the nerve root causing the issue. Disc Injuries can occur because of poor posture, repetitive use injuries, and accidents. Sciatica is also common when there are subluxations (misalignments) in the spine due to postural issues, pregnancy, or trauma. Some patients say they simply bent over to pick up a piece of paper and they were hit with extreme pain. The reality is that the spinal condition was probably developing for quite some time before the triggering incident occurred.

        CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR SCIATICA

With 26 years of experience, Biloxi Chiropractor Dr. Mitchell has helped hundreds of patients suffering with sciatica.  Dr. Mitchell is trained to zero in on the source of the sciatica and to work with you in determining the most suitable approach to treatment. After a thorough assessment of your unique issue, gentle adjustments are made that will allow the body to recover its natural alignment. Some people respond very quickly while others take more time to recover. It really depends on the condition of the disc or the joints that Dr. Mitchell has to correct. In most cases, the longer the issue persists, the longer it will take to achieve correction. The great news is that it typically takes less time to fix an issue like this than it took to create it. Once the position of the spine and discs are improved, patients often report improvements to their overall health. If you are experiencing symptoms of sciatica, don't hesitate to call our team at the Back & Neck Care Center TODAY!

        DISC INJURY IN BILOXI?

        DISC INJURY IN BILOXI?

If you have a suspicion that your chronic back pain is being caused by a disc injury, or you have received a diagnosis that confirm you are dealing with this kind of issue, you will probably benefit from the best chiropractic care in Biloxi you can find.Whether the pain is mild or severe, it is important to deal with it promptly so that the issue does not progress an cause more permanent damage. The following article discusses some of the symptoms of disc injuries with the aim of helping you to understand what you are dealing with. It also goes over how chiropractic care may give you immediate relief from the pain and discomfort associated with a disc injury, as well as possible long-term recovery.

        DISC INJURY TREATMENT IN BILOXI

The little pads that lie between your vertebrae are called the intervertebral discs. Each of these discs has a tough outer ring and a soft gel-like center. Your disc's job is to both join and to separate your vertebrae from one another. These discs act as cushions, or shock absorbers, so that the bones don’t make contact with each other as you move around, carry large objects, and bend over. Without the discs you would literally be unable to move your upper torso. Here are a few of the different kinds of disc injuries that make movements of the upper torso painful and difficult:
        • A protruding disc occurs when the disc becomes asymmetrical and the gel is pushed out or bulging.
        • A herniated disc is when the disc material has ruptured to the point that the gel pushes outward.
        • A disc extrusion is the worst type of disc injury. This is when the gel balloons extensively into the area outside the vertebrae or breaks off from the disc.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF A DISC INJURY

All of the above issues tend to result in considerable back pain, numbness, and limitation in range of motion due to the irritation of the nerve roots at the point where the injury occurs and the impact this has on the surrounding tissues. A number of distressing symptoms can arise from this nerve irritation and damage, including but not limited to:
        • Back pain
        • Neck pain
        • Weak legs or feet
        • Leg and foot pain, numbness and tingling (also known as sciatica)
        • Loss of bladder or bowel control

        CAR ACCIDENT CHIROPRACTOR IN BILOXI

        CAR ACCIDENT CHIROPRACTOR IN BILOXI

Many people will seek out chiropractic care in Biloxi after having an auto injury. A common auto injury, whiplash, occurs when the head and neck are whipped from back to front, similar to how a whip is cracked. The majority of car accidents are rear-end collisions with whiplash being a common result. Whiplash can also occur from other kinds of trauma, accidents, abuse, and falls.  Many people in Biloxi who have been involved in an accident don't even realize they have received a whiplash injury until weeks or months later when the problem becomes persistent and leads to other issues. If your neck has been injured in an accident or other incident, this article will you to understand if you have a whiplash injury and how chiropractic care can help you to treat it.

        WHIPLASH IN BILOXI

When the neck is whipped from back to front during a car accident, while playing contact sports such as football, or occasionally from an assault or other physical trauma, a number of things can happen to the spine and surrounding soft tissue. Whiplash describes the initial impact, but the results can include:
        • Disc bulges and herniation
        • Subluxations (misalignment of the vertebrae in the spine),
        • Injured bones in the spine,
        • Irritated and damaged nerves
        • Pulled ligaments and muscles in the neck

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF WHIPLASH?

Whiplash injuries can range from mild to very severe. Injuries tend to be more significant when your headrest is positioned too low. If the impact was quite severe or the headrest was low there is the possibility that bones are broken or tissue is damaged. It is highly recommended that you see a chiropractor and receive a thorough examination and x-rays. Even if the impact seemed mild, you may have whiplash if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
        • Neck pain
        • Shoulder, upper back, and arm pain
        • Headaches
        • Blurred vision
        • Pain when turning the head
        • Inability to move or turn the head fully
        • Dizziness
        • Tiredness
        • Numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, and fingers
        • Ringing in the ears
        • Difficulty sleeping
        • Depression
As you can see there are a wide range of symptoms and not all of them may be immediately traceable to whiplash. Even if you have been cleared by a doctor, your pain could still be related to whiplash and you may need treatment to correct the problem. If you have recently been injured it's important to get your spine checked as soon as possible. The sooner that you start treating the issue the less chance you have of it developing into a long-term problem.

        CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR CAR ACCIDENTS

Because the majority of whiplash incidents impact the spine and the surrounding nerves and tissues, chiropractic care is an excellent avenue for treatment. Chiropractic doctors are skilled in assessing the source of the pain associated with a whiplash injury and determining a plan for effective treatment. Chiropractic treatments are gentle and non-invasive. Through small adjustments, people find great relief from the pain associated with whiplash and are set on a road to full recovery. Call our team at Back & Neck Care Center to discover how chiropractic care can help you recover from whiplash.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR PREGNANCY IN BILOXI

CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR PREGNANCY IN BILOXI

The physical stress of pregnancy can lead to a great deal of discomfort. It's common for women in Biloxi to visit a chiropractic office regularly for low back pain, as well as other related issues, such as sciatica, leg cramps and constipation. This can lead to difficulty performing daily tasks as well as difficulties in labor.  Everyone knows regular prenatal visits and great nutrition are a big part of a healthy pregnancy—but many may not realize that chiropractic treatment is a great addition to prenatal care. Gentle and non-invasive, chiropractic is a safe and effective form of prenatal care that can provide the mother with relief from pain during pregnancy, may help position the baby in utero and can also assist the mother with postnatal pain, among other benefits.

Why Should I Consider Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy?
The body goes through an incredible amount of physiological and endocrinological changes during and following a pregnancy. As the body changes, the curve in the back increases, the abdomen protrudes, the ligaments relax and the pelvis changes, to name just a few. Regular chiropractic adjustments can help the body adapt to these changes and can treat common musculoskeletal symptoms.A chiropractor can also assist in establishing pelvic balance and alignment, which can help the baby get into the best possible position for delivery.More Benefits of Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
There are a myriad of benefits a mother can experience by selecting a chiropractor to join her prenatal care team. The American Pregnancy Association lists the potential benefits of chiropractic care as:Maintaining a healthier pregnancy
        Controlling symptoms of nausea
Reducing the time of labor and delivery
Relieving back, neck or joint pain
        Preventing a potential cesarean delivery
After receiving chiropractic adjustments, many women have reported relief from low-back pain due to pregnancy. Chiropractic treatment offers a non-pharmaceutical and safe form of pain relief.Webster's Technique and Breech Babies
The founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), Dr. Larry Webster, D.C., developed a now widely used specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment. Called Webster's Technique, this chiropractic technique is performed with the goal of reducing the effects of sacral subluxation/SI joint dysfunction. (Sacral subluxation is a misalignment in the sacrum, which sits at the base of the spine, in between the pelvic bones. The sacroiliac (SI) joints attach the pelvis to the sacrum.)Results from a mid-sized survey published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reported an 82 percent success rate in relieving the musculoskeletal causes of intrauterine constraint (a reduction in the amount of room for the fetus to move) using Webster's Technique. Often intrauterine constraint can lead to breech positioning, which often results in a caesarean section.

At our office, one of the conditions we commonly see is SCOLIOSIS. While kids are the largest groups affected by scoliosis, adults can suffer as well. Find out what else you should know about this common condition and how chiropractic care can help.
        What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a spinal disorder traditionally defined as a sideways curvature (or curvatures) of the spine. Often, the curves appear S-shaped or C-shaped. The most common form of scoliosis is idiopathic, which accounts for about 80 percent of scoliosis cases. Unfortunately—and frustratingly—idiopathic means "without known cause," meaning experts don't have all the answers for sufferers. Other forms of scoliosis are: Congenital Curve (meaning you were born with the issue). Paralytic Curve (meaning the muscles don't work). Myopathic Deformity (meaning the muscles don't work properly). Secondary (caused by a secondary condition, such as degeneration, osteoporosis or osteomalacia).
        Who is affected?
Scoliosis affects between 6 and 9 million people—around two to three percent of the population—in the United States. Of those suffering from the disorder, children aged 10 to 15 are the largest age group, and girls are more often affected than boys. While it's common in this age and gender group, there is a growing population of adults who have scoliosis.
        What causes scoliosis?
As mentioned above, most cases of scoliosis are without a known cause. Some cases, such as congenital scoliosis, do have a known cause. In congenital scoliosis, the curves are thought to be due to abnormally formed vertebrae, present at birth.
What are the signs and symptoms?
Typically, those who have scoliosis won't experience back pain, so it's important to look for physical signs such as: Uneven shoulders or a shoulder blade that protrudes farther than the other when standing. A rib hump (rib prominence) or a lower back hump (lumbar prominence) when bending forward. One hip may appear higher than the other. Once the spine has advanced to more extreme stages of scoliosis there can be severe health consequences. The good news is that if the bending of the spine is discovered early on, and Chiropractic care is received, it can be prevented from advancing to a debilitating state.
What are treatment options?  There are several options for treating scoliosis, such as chiropractic, observation and bracing. Experts agree that scoliosis is best treated when found early—so if you suspect scoliosis or are unsure, it's best to get checked right away.

ARM AND LEG PAIN IN BILOXI?

ARM AND LEG PAIN IN BILOXI?

The shoulder and hip joints are two of the most mobile and frequently used joints in the body. They are also a frequent site of injury and pain for many people we see in our Biloxi chiropractic clinic. From overuse to sports injuries, the causes are many, and the results range from slight discomfort to complete immobilization. The following article from Back & Neck Care Center gives information on some of the most common issues that lead to shoulder and leg pain, as well as a description of how chiropractic adjustments can help to reverse it.

TREATMENT FOR ARM AND LEG PAIN IN BILOXI

The actual cause of arm or leg pain can be difficult to self-diagnose. If you have had an obvious injury, such as stressing a joint through a repetitive pattern at work, dislocating a shoulder playing sports, or pinching a nerve by falling asleep in an awkward position, the source of your immediate pain may be obvious. However, when pain in the arms or legs develops slowly over time without the occurrence of an obvious injury or accident, or when the pain from an injury has become chronic and the source becomes perplexing, you may be in need of a more thorough assessment to determine the source. There are a number of different possible sources for the pain including bursitis, arthritis and tendinitis, but misalignments (subluxations) of the vertebrae in the neck and lower back are responsible for the vast majority of chronic arm and leg pain. If the spaces where the nerves leave the spine become narrowed because the vertebrae or discs are out of position, the nerve can become irritated, and often produces pain down its entire path. Many patients are surprised when they see that the nerves travel from the spine all the way to the ends of their fingertips and toes.As a result, injuries to the vertebrae in the spine can create the sensation of pain anywhere along the entire length of the arms and legs. The pain patterns associated with sciatica, which run from the hip all the way to the foot, are a good example of how this works.

CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT FOR ARM AND LEG PAIN

Due to the complexity of the joints and the vast number of possible causes of your leg or arm pain, it is important to have a professional evaluation to determine the source. Using a combination of a thorough review of your medical history, a physical examination, and advanced imaging techniques, a chiropractor can get a comprehensive picture that will lead to the root cause of your pain.
Using non-invasive and carefully applied adjustments, chiropractors assist the body in gently re-positioning the vertebrae which can provide both instant and long term relief. If you are experiencing arm or leg pain, don't wait for it to become unbearable, schedule a consultation with our team at Back & Neck Care Center today.
        SHOULDER PAIN IN BILOXI?

        SHOULDER PAIN IN BILOXI?

We don't think much about our shoulders until they start to give us pain. Most people immediately start looking for the best chiropractic care in Biloxi because they are always using their shoulders to lift and extend their arms, to carry, wave and perform numerous other motions and tasks. The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body and as a result it is subject to a wide range of injuries and conditions.
Shoulder problems that go unchecked can lead to lifelong, debilitating issues. In order to properly treat the shoulder joint and achieve long-term relief it is important to identify the cause of shoulder pain. This article explains some of the common causes of shoulder pain and how chiropractic care can return the shoulder to functional health.

        SHOULDER PAIN TREATMENT IN BILOXI

The causes of shoulder pain are seemingly endless, but let's go over some of the more common causes for pain in the shoulder. Shoulder pain may be the result of conditions, such as:
        • Neck and upper back tightness
        • Spinal misalignment
        • Arthritis
        • Abnormal patterns of movement
        • Athletic injuries and automobile accidents
While a few of the items on this list may indicate localized swelling in the shoulder joint, more of them point to the spine as the probable source of pain. The nerves that control the shoulder originate in the spine. If the vertebrae around the neck and upper back are compressed or injured, the nerves that go to the shoulder will be irritated and cause pain. Even a minor spinal misalignment can interrupt communication between the nerves and the shoulder and a cascade of problems can begin. So, what appears as shoulder pain may actually be referred pain from the spinal column.

        SYMPTOMS OF SHOULDER INJURY

Due to the wide range of causative factors, shoulder pain and abnormal motion in the joint may develop gradually or come on suddenly. Symptoms of a shoulder injury are occasionally very subtle, but even these can develop into major issues. Since the shoulder joint is used in the vast majority of activities that we engage in daily, all symptoms involving the shoulder should be monitored carefully and treated promptly to avoid progression of the problem. Symptoms indicating the need for an immediate evaluation of the shoulder complex include:
        • Shoulder pain that lasts for more than a week
        • Shoulder pain that goes away and then returns frequently
        • Difficulty raising your arm above your head
        • Trouble or pain when carrying objects
        • Pain in the shoulder joint that becomes more pronounced in the evening
        • Any visual signs of damage to the joint such as bruising or swelling
        • Unusual snapping or clicking sensations in the joint during movement

CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR KIDS IN BILOXI

CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR KIDS IN BILOXI

A child's nervous system is the controller and regulator of all the other systems in their growing body. From blood flow, to brain function and bone growth, the nervous system plays a central role in keeping things working and healthy. Stress and misalignment of the spine can have serious impacts on your child's overall health, behavior, and development. Back & Neck Care Center is a chiropractic clinic that offers gentle and non-invasive therapy that works to correct underlying issues before they become hard-wired in during development, providing support for a pain-free and successful childhood.

        PEDIATRIC CHIROPRACTIC IN BILOXI

It may be difficult to imagine that a child would need chiropractic care. They seldom complain of chronic pain the way adults do and their bodies appear to be made of rubber in the way they bounce back from injury. The truth is, children's bodies are under a lot of stress while they are in a state of development and keeping them healthy requires maintenance.Stress and trauma to the body and spine commonly begin with the birthing process. Infant’s spines can easily become misaligned from the intense pressure involved in both natural and Cesarean births. Unfortunately, other than crying, they have no way of communicating their pain, and it's source, to us. Throughout infancy they may sleep in awkward positions, and occasionally take a tumble. As children, they grow into toddlers who strain, and twist, and fall, while learning to crawl and walk. Luckily, they are very resilient and can take a lot of impact, but it is not uncommon for these injuries to develop into patterns of movement that will pull a child's bones out of alignment over time.As kids, they may start to develop bad posture. Sitting in front of a computer or TV can have serious repercussions on the spine. Playing contact sports, wearing heavy backpacks (most likely the wrong way), and even sitting in desks can all cause issues. As teenagers, they begin to deal with the stress of more daily responsibilities, like becoming part of the work force, and use their bodies to perform physical labor such as painting houses and serving tables. As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities throughout development for a child's body, and particularly their spine, to become out of alignment which will affect other aspects of their healthy nervous system function and development.

HOW CAN I TELL IF MY CHILD NEEDS CHIROPRACTIC CARE?

A child's spine can become quite misaligned without any awareness on their part of pain or discomfort. Children have not always developed enough awareness of their bodies to identify a subtle chronic issue developing. Even when a child is experiencing pain, they may not be able to communicate it to you and it can come across as grumpiness, acting out, or incessant crying. Issues with the spine can also be the source of many other childhood issues.

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR KIDS?

A chiropractic treatment for a child begins with an extensive examination to determine the exact issue and the best route for treatment. Even if your child is too young to communicate, or too shy, a chiropractor has the skills to work with them to find out exactly what is going on before proceeding with treatment, if it is determined treatment is needed. Gentle and non-invasive adjustments are then made to the spine. Children will often become relaxed and even fall asleep following treatment, a good sign that it has been effective. If you are concerned about your child's spinal health, call our team at Back & Neck Care Center to set up a consultation today.
        WELLNESS CARE IS IMPORTANT

        WELLNESS CARE IS IMPORTANT

Just because you don't feel sick, does not mean you feel as great as you could. Far too many people wait until they are sick to find a chiropractic clinic in Biloxi. It is common in our culture to accept a slow decline in health as we age, but it is also unnecessary. We now have information and the advances in the field of health and wellness to live a life of optimal health which, contrary to popular belief, can actually get better as we grow older. This article will walk you through some of the common beliefs about health and discusses how chiropractic medicine can be an important part of your preventative, wellness care plan.

HOW LIFESTYLE AFFECTS OVERALL WELLNESS IN BILOXI

The decisions we make and the actions we take in each moment of our day affect our bodies and can slowly produce problems that may not show symptoms. What we eat, how we sit, the work that we do with our bodies, and even the way we emotionally react to a situation, can have long-term impacts on our wellness. If you spend your days sitting at a desk, the way you hold your head or place your arms can have a major impact, not only on your neck and shoulders, but also on your whole body. This is because the bundle of nerves that sends messages to every other part of our body, originates in our spinal column. When vertebrae become misaligned there are dozens of possible impacts upon our health. This also goes for how we hold emotions in the body. If we are chronically tensing our shoulders due to stress or anxiety, this can once again impact the spine and the rest of the body. As you can see, even if we don't feel sick, we may be in need of a little extra care to prevent daily activities from becoming more severe problems.

        WHY WE NEED WELLNESS CARE

Health can be defined as the body functioning properly rather than just feeling good. You may not feel sick today, but if your nervous system is being impeded from sending messages to other organs and systems in the body, things may not be working as well as they could be. Through a regular wellness care program that works to restore spinal health and mobility, people often find that they have more energy and do not get sick as often. When the nervous system is functioning properly, the benefits are endless. Digestion, blood flow, lung capacity, heartbeat, skin tone, and overall mobility are just some of the body’s functions that are positively impacted by a spine that is properly aligned.

CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT AS PART OF A WELLNESS CARE PLAN

Chiropractic treatments work to keep the integrity of the nervous system intact and are an excellent choice as a part of a wellness care plan. Regular, gentle adjustments can ensure that the daily impacts of your life are not wearing your health down over time. By performing a thorough evaluation of your health history and current physical state, a chiropractor can help you detect problems before they develop into a more serious issue, keeping you at peak function and feeling great. Call to set up a consultation with our team at Back & Neck Care Center and start on the path of chiropractic wellness care today.
